What’s the story?
hi there!
Honestly, when I first set up this website, it was a tough call who I should be introducing first…my two bunnies who inspired this business, or myself! Because, let’s face it, if you’ve caught us on our socials, you’ll know that Mika and Pippin were always the face of this small biz from the start, and the sweetest of recognisable little floofs around. Product posts have always appeared far less frequently than these cuties did - which is just how it should be! Having sadly lost our beautiful Mika very early in 2024, Pippin now shoulders the responsibility of toy/taste tester alone these days…which is a job he readily accepts. He also shares our home harmoniously with 2 younger (larger) brothers of the feline variety: Luca and Kai.
There is so much to say about this tiny rabbit with such a HUGE personality, that he probably deserves a whole page dedicated solely to him…so look out for that coming soon!
Nibbles & Knots began in February 2021 and was a result of two passions colliding…a love of bunnies (of course!) and my life-long obsession with crafting. I had recently taken up the art of knotting (macrame) during the pandemic lock-downs and started to use what I had learnt to create bunny-safe toys from seagrass cord for my own rabbits. Toys from pet stores really didn’t seem to interest them in the least, and I had begun to fear that my bunnies simply didn’t like to play! Which was ridiculous of course, and proven incorrect as soon as I tried them on my own toys. My husband then suggested that other bunnies might really benefit from my handcrafted enrichment products also…and N&K was born.
As a result, the first collection of toys were simply knotted seagrass with wooden components…but this quickly evolved when I started to experiment with designs incorporating timothy hay and a variety of other bunny-safe materials. Everything is designed and made-to-order by yours truly. And most importantly, everything is natural. Fun fact: almost 4 years on, and still the only colours you will find in our products are that of dried flowers or the occasional piece of coloured paper raffia!
My hope is that as many small animals as possible are able to experience the N&K difference and show their families that they really can live their best life interacting with completely edible toys. It all comes down to understanding their unique needs and giving them the kind of enrichment they love and deserve. The yummy (and healthy) kind, that is!
